Habitat El Paso helps Vietnam Vet Rehabilitate his Home

Because of his condition, it made it difficult for him to maintain his home into a livable condition. The nonprofit organization Habitat for Humanity of El Paso stepped up to help Rechy get back on track.

One of the main issues with Rechy’s home was that electricity only working in some parts of the house. He also had no water because he had plumbing issues and a water heater that was leaking.

Rechy’s air conditioner was also giving him problems. Now Rechy has a fully functioning home and tells KTSM he is eternally grateful for the work that habitat put into it.

For Rechy, he is grateful for his counselor and for Habitat for Humanity for coming together to help him create a new home for himself. He says he is beginning to get back to his normal self and looks forward to his future.

At the time of the application back in 2018, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity, Dave Driscoll, said they did. When the Habitat for Humanity finally obtained the funding that was needed, the organization was able to begin repairs to his home.

Habitat Selects Family for 2022-23 Home Build

The Sanchez Family Selected for Habitat Home Build

Habitat for Humanity of El Paso will be hosting a dedication ceremony for their newest Home Recipients, the Sanchez family. The event will be in Socorro, Texas on Friday, November 17 ^th , 2023, from 11 am until 1 pm.

The Sanchez family was selected from hundreds of applicants based on their income and their urgent need for a home. Selected families must participate in the building of their own home and others as needed. They must also meet income expectations and complete a background check.

“We are thankful for the wonderful experience and opportunity,” says Habitat Homeowner Veronica Sanchez, reflecting on how her life and that of her two daughters has changed. “The experience was truly unique and heartfelt. This is a dream come true.”

Habitat Offices move in with sister ReStore

Habitat for Humanity and its partner, ReStore, have moved into Sunrise Village in Northeast El Paso. Located at 8500 Dyer, this location brings much needed shopping and services to an infamously underserved area.

Thanks to local partners and donors, the ReStore carries new and slightly used homewares and building materials, selling them to the public at a fraction of their retail values. The store then donates any profits back to Habitat so they may continue working towards their mission of providing safe and affordable homes to those most in need.

"Our Habitat ReStore is the reason we continue to exist," says Executive Director, Thelma Ramos. "Moving out of our previous warehouse and into a real store front can only help the ReStore, which will ultimately help Habitat and the El Paso Community."

ReStore hours are 9 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday. To donate, shop, or volunteer, call them today at (915) 706-5060.

Habitat office hours are from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.
