The Sigala / Pedroza Family Meet the Sigala/Pedroza Family selected by Habitat for Humanity – El Paso family Selection Committee for the Thrivent Financial home build in 2007. Evangelina and Jesus are dedicated parents with deep faith, a commitment to hard work, their family and their focus on becoming homeowners. Evangelina works at the Civic Center in the Housekeeping Department and Jesus has worked for Accurate Coring Co. for the past year. Both are thankful for their ability to work and to assure they provide for their two children, Diana who is fifteen and a freshman in High School and Steven seven and in third grade. Residing in El Paso for many years, the Sigala/Pedroza family entered into what they believed was legitimate legal transaction purchasing lands to one day build a home on. After eight years of monthly payments they discovered the property was still legally the original owners. They had unknowingly contributed to the paying off the property for someone else and remained without the land they dreamed of building their home on. After this financial and emotional loss, they rented an apartment in central El Paso last summer. As they began to save and recover from their earlier financial loss the rains began and flooded their apartment destroying their furniture and personal possessions. They faced yet another move to a single room (garage) without heating or cooling. Discouraged and unemployed Jesus left reluctantly for California to try to find work and strengthen the family’s financial condition. Despite the distance, Evangilina and Jesus never gave up believing they would one day be able to realize the dream of homeownership for their family. The Thrivent Builds Homes represents the realization of their dream.
